I've got a few engines in various states knocking around the garage, from a couple of bare cases to a complete engine, so could assemble one from parts.
But too be honest, I fancy something with a bit more oomph and noise.
I've made some enquiries about getting the heads welded and properly repaired, but as they're cracked between both the valve seats as well as the spark plug holes it'll probably cost more to do than a new pair.

The heater hoses had clips on, but something ripped one end off the heat exchanger and the clip is missing. it's a bit of a mystery, as there's no sign of any damage anywhere.

Bloody hell thats a real dose of bad luck! At least youve got most of the expensive and rare bits to get another one built.

Slowly, buying parts as funds allow. Cylinder heads and bolt up rockers aren't cheap....

No worries, made some expensive purchases today. :D
Just need to get a couple of other bits and then it's all being dropped off to Suffolk to be machined and built.

Someone elses heater problem has just given me a thought. In the IPC is says there is an adapter on the exchange end of the pipe into the car.

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/ma ... t_Heat.pdf

Page 2-12 I guess if that was missing even with the clips the pipe would be loose?

It was the pipe from the fan housing to the top of the heat exchanger that came detached, so the cooling air took the path of least resistance out into the wheel arch rather than over the n/s head.

ahhh ok. Thats not stock then, I now see how it happened. There isnt really anything to attach the hose to at the inlet of the heat exchanger. I had that problem a long while ago. The best solution I came up with was using this beetle parts

https://www.vwheritage.com/113255165-fr ... e-vw-spare

Into the exchanger and then jubilee the hose to the other end.

A metal collar and some self tappers will secure it.
But that will all be irrelevant when the new engine goes in, no heat exchangers will be fitted as the bore will be too small.

Heritage Automotive kindly donated an Amorok to help me with the setting up.

Fuching hell

Image

The good thing about being there when people are setting up is the possible bargains you can get. :D

A cock up with the plot size meant things were a bit tight, and we couldn't get the additional Beetles, Type 3s, etc onto the plot.

Image

Image

But that was OK because the T3OC plot was next to us and they would welcome 4 Type 3s, wouldn't they....

"We have a club plot booked, thanks to Larry and Lin, though not a club camping area, and you're welcome to bring a car to display on the plot."

To be honest I was fucked off with the Type 3 Owners Club display pitch and I was not alone. It was really disappointing.

Image

So we parked on an empty trade plot and had our own display.

Anyway, rant over.
Thanks to all that came, another cracking weekend.

Good to see you are back on the road again and thanks for sharing the pics, sounds like you enjoyed it in the end, probably after a load of hard work.

Is it mandatory for for a south west type 3's to be blue.

Do I take it that next time she'll be clad in Fuchs rather than Teledials ?

Some nice cars there, you have a running engine again :D how does it run?

That wasnt really a rant, you havent told us what was the cause of the rant? why were you "fucked off with the Type 3 Owners Club display pitch"? Its always worth knowing so things can be improved upon

Did you not notice that there was just the Notch in the middle of a camping plot surrounded by modern cars including a Peugeot?
In your opinion how many of the following pictures would adequately describe a single marque display?

To be fair it wasn't just this pitch that was like this, there were quite a few complaints about the lack of show cars.
The clubs involved aren't being asked back next year as there are more club display enquiries than available plots.

There was a lot of work involved, especially in the entertainment areas, and I did have a very enjoyable weekend, thanks.
I think shades of blue are popular in the Bristol area.
I'm in no rush to fit the Fuchs, but yes, they will be first choice wheels.

Ah, the "new" engine. Not a great success, there's usually a reason why people sell engines.
But the good news is that the heads, cam and clutch have finally arrived from the US, so they're off to the machine shop along with the other parts.

I think that might say it all. I hadnt even noticed that the photo with the single notch was the "club display"

Whats up the the temp engine?
