Re: fan shroud
tighten? in what respect? the body to the block or two halves together?
and no, for the love of god no. disable the thermostat only if to wish to shorten the life of your engine

Re: fan shroud
I would suspect that the rear of the fan shroud isn't properly seated & that You've set the relay lever/thermostat linkage in the wrong position?
Whip the impeller off & the head tin on 1 & 2, slacken the pinch bolt on the linkage, then loosen the back of the housing & give it a wiggle

Re: fan shroud
whats an impeller
I am bolting the first half to the block and as i tightened it the thermostat linkage became quite stiff. I wondered if had to be torqued. i have tested the thermostat with a hairdryer- it is working.

And by the way, Your lovely new dissy clamp looks good, but it needs to be under the dissy, not resting on the block as it was in yesterdays photo!

Re: fan shroud
I should really have said Fan!
It needs to sit right in its position- you might have it caught up on something
Fanhousing should be vertical, so check it's not at a funny angle
then loosen the pinch bolt on the linkage

Re: fan shroud
the fan is not in. I will check the level of the housing. the linkage is not tightened- just slotted in the hole

Re: fan shroud
Can't be... the engine support bar goes over the oil pump nuts
Look at the support bar/ heat exchanger area

I'll take some photos of my engine this evening so you can see how its supposed to look. Could be handy if you post some photos of what yours currently looks like

Re: fan shroud
Yours doesnt need to be as oily or corroded as this, but this is how the oil pump engine bar and fan housing need to fit. If you arent getting hte fan housing flush then you wont be getting the fan on as it will just rub on the housing.
And then from the top mounting against the breather.
Would be good to see similar photos of yours.

Re: fan shroud
this is a side bottom view. the blue circle is the bolt touching the fan shroud.
This is from directly underneath- the red circle is the position of the bolt/thread that sticks out.

Re: fan shroud
They are probably not helpful, but im going to grind the bolt back. i did fit a new oil pump, which needed longer bolts...

Re: fan shroud

Re: fan shroud
It all become clear, you have fitted an oil pump with a thicker mounting flange. Two different pumps were offered, gears were 21mm and the other ones were 26mm gear. So the pump needed to be 5mm thicker. Why have you changed to the bigger pump? Ideally you should swap back to a 21mm pump and all will fit nicely.greenfyregirl wrote: ↑18th September 2018 - 3:26pmThey are probably not helpful, but im going to grind the bolt back. i did fit a new oil pump, which needed longer bolts...
Doh just seen your last message. What cam have you put in?

Re: fan shroud
Ahhh, ill have to do some remembering as to what the oil pump requirements are there. i seem to recall there are both thicknesses of pump in both 3 and 4 rivet cam variety. could be as simple as a pump change. ive got an engle 110 in one of my engines and its got great oil pressure, but i cant remember what pump i used at the minute.

Re: fan shroud
i changed the cam and the pump to match. think it was a schadek 26mm. will it matter to the fan shroud set up tho?

Re: fan shroud
The fan is the same on them all. the 26mm bit is the problem. I cant for the life of me remember how I solved it. The engine is in storage at the minute. I will have a look at it at the weekend.
As long as you can get the fan housing to sit flush so that the fan doesn't catch and the thermostat linkage is free and working then it doesn't matter if you've got a 21 or 26mm pump. Is your engine otherwise stock?

Re: fan shroud
Were Barry & Rich overseeing the build?
Just wondering if anyone checked that the oil galleries in pump/case lined up ok?
