First 68 fastback
First 68 fastback
Hi Everyone our names are Kev and Kerry Winter we are the proud owners of 68 fastback. Its been in a barn for 12 years and has been stripped for my husband Kev to work on. Have been a big fan of fastback's since i was seventeen. So excited.
Re: First 68 fastback
Great to hear another ones being brought back to life, welcome to the forum! Fastbacks are the best type 3 of all, is it the first 68 fastback or your first one?

Re: First 68 fastback
First fastback but my husband has a 67 split and we have been on the vw scene for years as have had type bay windows and beetles. But this is mine. So excited to be bringing her back to life
Re: First 68 fastback
So its your first fastback rather than the first 68 fastback off the production line?
Whats the long term plan? do you have any photos? Are you modifying anything, what colour is it/are you going for?

Re: First 68 fastback
Its dark green, am going to look up exact colour. Long term plan is to lower her and get her rolling. No show winner just want a good sound daily driver with a bit of sass. Kev is just about to start on her engine and go from there. Her body is solid only two patches that need attention. Brakes to be renewed. My job is the interior so im going to check out the condition of seat and recover if i can find the right colour. I have photos but struggling to post at moment so will have to check out Flickr or photo box.
Re: First 68 fastback
Great news, sounds like a fairly small project, ready for next year then
I wouldn't bother with flickr unless you are prepared to pay. Samsung have recently bought them and as from January next year there will be a hosting fee once you have more than 1000 photos on there. I suppose it will depend how many you plan to share, im snap happy and ive got thousands across various forums of different cars
I assume you have spotted the photo posting guides?

Re: First 68 fastback
You can find paint codes at http://home.clara.net/hallvw/vwpaint.htm along with reasonable representation of the colours. Peru green is a likely one; deep sea green is much less common.

Re: First 68 fastback
Yes its still in a barn awaiting ti be moved into the work shop so Kev can get started. Im very excited. Cant wait to take NDL out, also trying to find a T34 or a Karmann ghia. Have you heard of any for sale as we are selling our 67 split.
Re: First 68 fastback
There a few on ebay and even a T34 at £10k which seem rather a bargain even if it does need a little work.

Re: First 68 fastback
Thanks for that, we have seen a few on ebay. I think ws will end up with a Ghia.
Re: First 68 fastback
Whereabouts are you, out of interest?
Re: First 68 fastback
Ok..was just gonna say that I have a 68 fastback too and you would have been welcome to take a look for reference purposes..but I am in the West Midlands.. and you are in Ryde..bit far away!
Although will be in Ryde at Easter..but not in the fastback!
Good luck with your project.
