After 8 months and lots of sleepless nights my fastback is finally nearing completion. I still need a couple of things but i took it for a test drive to see if it all works as it should. I fitted a beetle balljoint beam with drop spindles and honestly the car drives better now than when it had the type3 beam fitted. Previously with the type3 set up it was down three splines at the front and was sat on the bump stops so the suspension was non existant. Now with the beetle set up the bump stops are in the shockers and the car has a couple of inches of travel before it hits the bump stop, which in turn keep the car about an inch from the tarmac. The car is unwelded and rhd with a stock 1600 twin carb engine, just need my carpet set from t3d now and i can take it to some shows.

This is my favourite pic.

Well I don't generally approve of such radical changes to the front beam, and I still don't think a Type 3 needs it, but I have to admit you appear to have made a lovely job of it, and it must have taken a lot of effort and time to achieve, not to mention cash.

Thank you for the kind words. It did take quite a lot of working out and i was worried that it wouldn't be up to the job but it corrects on its own as it should and performs far better than the type 3 one as that was lowered 3 splines and was sat on the bump stops. The main problems were the steering arms wanted to foul on everything they could but now its all sorted. Col.

Hi Pacey,

Nice job! Have you got any pics of the new beam being fitted/adapted or in place? What method did you use? Toying with the idea of fittting a T1 beam to my Fasty.
Very Happy

Everything about your car looks so right - the stance, the paint, the wheels.

And it's so straight and clean!

Real nice

I was looking for a split bug but I seen this and it had to be mine. It drives as good as it looks. Very Happy Pacey has built this car well and has put alot of thought into it. It will be going away for the winter Sad

I love this car, really nicely done.

It's a pity you didn't have a resto thread in Readers Rides on VZi Wink , I would nominate it for their clubstand.

Well done

Nice one. just looking on E bay and thought you might be interested. Did you know you could get it on a mug? You should buy one and see if he realises the number plate is right. Laughing
