VW TYPE 3 & 4 CLUB FORUM

The old circular air filter for the 412 LE is apparently unavailable and next to impossible to find.

purplepete, a club memeber, has been very helpful and pointed me towards an alternative air filter to the original VW 022 129 620 that is meant to be a good fit mentioned in an old club newsletter.

The replacement filter is a Fram CA662PL which fits the Renault R4 and the Fiat 1100/103, 124. It is meant to be a good match, both heightwise and inner diameter wise but it is just a tad narrower on the outer diameter.

I have found one for a fiver on flea-bay and at that price it is is worth a go so I will report back if it fits.

The new filter arrived earlier in the week and I have now fitted it and it is a good fit, other than being a tad narrower as you can see.



The height and inner diameter are identical to the stock filter so shall see how it runs now for a while.

Out of interest, in case someone here can look up the specs for other cars, what are the internal and external diameters and the depth of the original?

The sizes for the stock original are

Internal diameter 125mm
External diameter 205mm
Depth 80mm for the depth through the centre and 75mm for the outside edge depth.

I have given two depths due to there being a lip on the filter that you can see in the pics from earlier post.
