Re: Late spindles early calipers

Hi Peter,

I called the brakes guys but they don’t do them anymore, just referb kits.

I’m stuck at the moment so waiting isn’t a problem - although I am also looking into the T1 beam options. Just wasn’t what I wanted to do right now.

Late spindles early calipers

I posted this in an different thread but as it’s causing me pain I thought I’d elevate it to it’s own thread. I’m trying to revert my fasty front suspension from T1 to T3. I’ve been collecting the parts, however it turns out that the spindles I have look to be off a later model (post 71) but the cal...

Re: Front brake line

Seems I have a bigger problem before I get that far. The spindles I have look to be off a later model. The bolt holes for the callipers are 760mm apart. The Calipers I have are earlier with the bolt holes 560mm apart. A quick google seems to suggest that later calipers are hard to come by. I don’t s...

Re: Front brake line

I managed to get the brake lines all discounted today. The flare spanner proved decisive, as did my vice.
One of the copper nuts is a bit dicey but hopefully it’s serviceable.
They were an utter b*stard to undo - thanks for the tips

Re: Front brake line

Thanks, good tips guys. I’ve not seen flare spanners before so will definitely get me some of those.

Knowing what plan B could look like give me more confidence to really go for it with plan A.

I’ll let you know how I get on.

Front brake line

I’m having real problems removing the flexible brake hose on the front brakes of my fasty. I’ve never know anything like it. I’ve even removed the whole right hand section from the Brake Master Cylinder and held the copper brake line nut in a vice and I still can’t disconnect it. (It’s the 17mm nut ...

Re: Fasty too low

Thanks DevonNotch but I got a beam sourced already - otherwise I would have taken you up on that!
I’ve decided to fit a stock beam for now, but lower it a few splines. Then I’m going to revisit the Type 1 narrow beam at the later date. My priority at the moment is to get the drive right and enjoy it.

Re: Fasty too low

It wasn’t so much lowered as slammed. It’s adjusted up as high as it will go but still too low for me. I’ll check the ball joints as they could be a problem.
I think I’ve sources a beam with trailing arms and hubs but no tie rods. I’ll pick that up on Friday and go from there.

Re: Fasty too low

Thanks Broady,

I’ll carry on with the stock beam plan for now. Still struggling to source all the parts - the long tie rod being the main problem. I’ve seen a site in the US which appears to sell them but I was hoping to source something closer to home.

I’ll look into flickr to imgshack later.

Fasty too low

Hi all, I finally took the plunge and bought a type 3 fasty. Liked them for a long time and decide to go for it. I’m familiar with the type 1 and have a type 14 so I understand the basics but I’m learning how different a type 3 can be! The car I have has been lowered and has a narrow beam, type 1. T...
