Red and black wires are brake light switches. Looks to be solid white and black with a white stripe which are Head light and indicator respectively https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiring/type3_6870.jpg you may be able to pick bits from different diagrams here https://www.thesamba.com/vw/ar...

Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback

Imagine the wavey lines across your screen while a harp strums. Let me take you back in time (it was so long ago I forget how long). But I discussed with someone that my bonnet doesnt hold its self fully open. I put this down to old springs combined with me putting a new front end on and no doubt go...

Re: '71 Notchback carpet set

Ive got what I recall to be TMI carpets in mine. I sound proffed the floor with dodo liner and its a goot sound proofer/underlay. The carpets were a pretty good fit to be honest. Not exact copies of the originals. But 95% the real thing

Yeah, I expect it was a means of sound proofing. Unfortunately its also a water trap. My fasty was the same and I had to cut it open and dig the bulk of it out.

Re: Garage recommendations please

It is of course ok to ask. It sounds like you are looking for a bodyshop/ Resto shop rather than a garage. Im up in lincolnshire and use a couple around here. But it is rather impractical for you.

Tramping through old videos and I found this. Laps of Brands Hatch in the fasty. Not the most exciting, but great fun.

It will be a game of patients. They dont pop up for sale all the time like modern cars. But I expect if you keep looking this year you will find the car you want. Try an advert in the wanted section as well. I will keep any eye out for anything suitable as well.

Re: Type 3 Automatic Transmission

Yeah, I used my manual 1600 twin carb as a daily and regular commuted from Southend to Lincoln and always returned about 30mpg. For work which was half town half country it was around 27mpg. Autos typically offer less per gallon than manuals

Getting on very nicely! Have you got the rear brakes properly adjusted? If you havent the brake pedal will feel terrible. Not to teach you to suck eggs. (who sucks eggs?) Wined all 4 shoes up to the drum. Not jammed against solid, but when they against. you will feel the adjuster get harder to turn,...
