How many cars are still alive in UK?

This has been prompted partly by a discussion recently on vzi,& the fact that it's 10 years since the Club last did a headcount of Types 3 & 4 that are still alive in uk.

Poll is split into 2 parts,to give us an idea of How many cars are roadworthy,as well as How many "projects" are out there.

Overseas Forum users,please Do Not vote,but post a reply to the thread instead

For "Roadworthy" Please only include cars that are currently Taxed or MOT'd,So If your pride & Joy is tucked up in Her winter storage,but will be brought out in the spring,Then include Your car in this Category.

For Projects,Please only count Complete or Near Complete cars

Obviously,We know that the results of this Survey wont be definitive,but it'll help give everyone an idea of how many cars are out there

Results are Confidential-Other people Cant see what you've admitted to,So dont worry about anyone finding out about your secret Collection!

To save you looking, the Type 3 models (well, Volkswagen 1500 is probably mostly Beetles) are listed with how many recorded as LICENSED each year (reverse order). There are others on SORN, which you can find looking up the model. I think 2002 was when you had to record a vehicle as on SORN as totals leap in that year before generally declining again.
It is based on the registration records, so there may be some info that needs a bit of interpretation.

I think All results have to be taken with a pinch of salt,including ours,But i'm not convinced that website has any degree of accuracy,or how much info dvla legitimately divulge

I doubt there are many of those very old documents around - few of our 40 year-old cars are with the original owner, and they will have had a V5 issued since, which asks for the Make and Model.

My Square is on the latest v5, no model description. 2 axle rigid body. The body type is "Estate".
My Razor is just 2 axle rigid body, mind you I haven't got round to sorning it yet (been off road for 11 years now)

I've a 63 square in resto and the 71 fasty currently SORN. Couldn't see where to add these as neither are roadworthy currently so please add them to your numbers wherever you see fit.

The "How Many Left" website can only be as good as the data that sits behind it. Similar to the "Twin axle rigid body" issue, my old notch was newly registered in the UK within the last couple of years on the new V5 and all it stated was "Volkswagen".
