TYPE 3 AUTO GEARBOX
hi i have a big problem i need a type 3 automatic working gearbox had rear drive slow forward drive at high rev,s , it lay for 2 years i pulled it out off the garage the other day drained the oil dropped the sump pan replaced the pan gasket & strainer , filled up with type 3 ATF then started her up put her in n and checked the level , i have no drive at all now , so i think i need a type 3 reconditioned or a known working gearbox , or CAN anyone tell me if a complete type 4 auto box would fit the housing for the type 1 flatbed engine i have a trike

she's an old lady .left to me by a disabled guy when he past on ,this is a sentimental trike, scoff was a real great bloke the engine is sound type one runs gr hope any you guys can help me

The Engine in your Photo is a Type 3 “ Pancake “ Engine. So far as I am aware the Type 4 Auto Transmission is the same as the Type 3 Auto Transmission. The difference is the Torque Converter/ Drive Plate ( Flex Plate ) due to the differences between Type 3 Crankshaft and Type 4 Crankshaft. When my Type 3 Auto lost all Drive on leaving work one day I went through buying a Used Auto Transmission and paying to have it fitted, only for it to Self Destruct on the Test Drive. The Seal between the Auto Transmission and Gear Oil in the Diff. had failed, so the Diff. exploded.
Final solution was to have my original Transmission Rebuilt with all New Seals, Clutches and Brake Bands. That was in 1993. It is still working fine today !
Basically the Auto Transmission Specialist told me the loss of all Drive was due to Seals leaking ( in the Valve Block I think ). A proper Auto Transmission Specialist can Check Fluid Pressures by connecting into those Plugs at various points around the Transmission Casing. That can help them to Diagnose the Fault(s) ?
