my 69 fasty has no frame horns or cradle for the gearbox. so is it kind of unsupported until connected to the engine ?
i'm confused !!!!

Yes! If you take the engine out you need to support the gearbox. A chain or rope round a baulk of timber across the engine compartment works well. You can loop the chain through suspension arms, but I like this way!
