Which battery for my Fastback

Post by cbst3 » 10th December 2012 - 4:13pm

Now that my Fastback is up for sale, I have been charging the battery to get it started and MoTd, but I can't get enough charge in to turn it over for more than one starting attempt. The battery has never been particularly good and even of I leave it disconnected, it loses all charge in a week or two.

So, I am going to buy a new battery so that I can get it running and in a position to be able to show people that it does start and run. Question is, what battery type do I need? I have tried searching, but not found a definitive answer. Is it the same as that fitted to a Beetle? Is there a "type" number that most manufacturers will understand? Where is a good place for decent value?

Thanks.

Colin

BTW, did I mention that my 1971 Marina Blue Fastback is for sale? :)

Its an "063" as fitted to Beetles etc
GSF is probably the cheapest

Fuel Injection often have the bigger 44Ah (edited from smaller 36Ah) capacity, but carbs are happy on either, and no doubt a new one will be fine for either.

The Bosch S4 063 battery claims to be 45Ah, with a 4 year guarantee (presumably proportional after some point). Eurocarparts do them with free shipping for £35.99 if you checkout with BATTERY15 as a promo code. That's pretty good value I'd say.

Does the 412 use the same battery?
