Choosing a new type 3 engine!

Post by corndog » 19th October 2006 - 1:23am

Right i need some good advice for what to go for cuz everyone seems to have their own stories whether certain engines are compatible with a Variant A (no FE).

Options:

1 Remtec recon- no it'll fit, will have to wait months for one, old cranckcase.

2 Remtec 1600 New crankcase- available now, mods needed- change pulley, extend oil cooler thread, some people have mentioned other mods.

3 New Mexico engine- Universal crankcase! But remtec said oil filler hole needs milling out? Apparanty T3D use these as standard but say they only need the mods of 2.

Its all very confusing and contradictory :? If anyone has for sure mods needed for any of these engines please enlighten me cuz my head is starting to hurt. :(

Cheers ;)

To confuse your list of options more, I used a new aluminium case on mine. These are universal cases for type 1/2/3. No work needed on them other than clearing up a bit of flash (dipstick filler hole present, plus engine hanger bar holes). Stateside uses these for his new engines. Cost about £400 i think, but I can't remember if that included milling out for 90.5. Some people are not keen on the aluminium cases, but Stateside seems happy with them.
