Hi Don, I don't look at the Type 3 gallery all that often so I've just found your thread, but it's good to see someone not too far from me (and I was brought up in the NE - Portknockie to be exact).
I haven't had a Type 3 for some time (I've got two Type 4 long-term projects) but I've quite a few spares so there's a chance I might have some things you need.

Hi Dave, Yes, good to have someone within driving distance for spares etc. My fastback is going to be a major project, it wasn't meant to be but I bought it unseen, other than photos and it is far worse than I expected. It was described as needing some TLC! Anyway what sort of spares would you have?

Pretty random collection Don - some new old stock parts from dealers' stock clearances years ago (mostly Hawco's in Elgin) plus bits from cars that I've broken - ranging from bits of trim to panels and engines (one seized so for parts only). Sorry I haven't found a tailpipe but I have got a headlining, which I think is from a Type 3 Notchback but with some stitching it could work for a Fastback. My car has the sliding sunroof so not sure how the headlining would work but I've never had any dealings with headlining. Bonnets, one rear wing (left IIRC but would have to go to my garage to check - 2 miles away), bumpers, spare wheel wells, NOS rear bootlid. I've got doors but I think they're all for earlier cars - will check garage. Dave, Don't go looking at the moment for me. I will be making a list of what I need and sadly it looks like being a very long list. 17/08/19 This was the first opportunity I’ve had to take the car to a friend of mine who has a ramp. The idea being that I could make a thorough inspection of the underside. The outcome was much worse than I feared. The driver’s side sill is rotten and only attached to the floor pan at either end of the sill. The copious amounts of underseal were hiding a hole through the back of the battery box area. The rear driver side jacking point is collapsing. The front frame head area, not sure it’s called that on a type 3 is seriously corroded. Steering damper is leaking. Steering box is leaking oil and very stiff. With all of this + the badly corroded areas inside the boot and around the rear window, the engine oil leaks, the tattered headlining, the burst seats and all of the electrical items that don’t work this has now turned into a body off nut and bolt restoration. This is not what I had in mind when I bought the car. I had thought my days of major restorations were in the past. Boy was I wrong!

Ouch! That's a lot of work but I'm glad you feel up to doing it.
The outer sills aren't actually attached to the floorpan directly; they just sit alongside its edge. If they've been welded to it, that's a bodge. The sill structure is part of the body, which is bolted to the floorpan in the same way as a Beetle, although a very different shape. (I once had a nice-looking 1963 Variant which had reconstructed sills welded to the floor. After a while the previous owner wanted to buy it back, and when he did, he found some horrors lurking under the "repair", and landed up breaking the car.)
The good news is that if you need to replace the steering box, it's the same as on a Beetle, so should be easy to find. Same goes for the steering damper.
I checked my garage as I was there anyway, and I've got rear wings for both sides and a pair of late doors.

Interesting to see late 1960s style flashers on your car - not original for the longer nose model but they suit it. (And I'm one who prefers originality.)

Yes this is a real bummer but, I have already started stripping the car, got the doors, bonnet and bumpers Etc. off. What condition are your doors?
