After several years of driving watercooled vehicles I've returned to the air-cooled fraternity
Should never have left it so long! This is my first Type 3 after 13 years of Beetle ownership.

Only plans are to replace the low seats with highbacks, declutter the dash (there are a lot of defunct switches and holes at present!) and possibly replace the wheels with the set of Sprintstars that came with the car - although they do need a bit of TLC

Always nice to see another late Notch in the U.K,
You sure its a '70 though? I think it may be '71> as I thought the 3 vents by the rear sreen were introduced in that year, I could be wrong though.
Danny.

I was fortunate that the clear front lenses (and the all red rear lenses) were in the box of bits and pieces that came with the car.

Thats a lovely notch mate. I've got a feeling red rears lights are an mot failure in this country.
I might be wrong but keep the normal ones just in case.

They are illegal, ok for pre '65 cars tho, The place where I get my Notch MOTd passes it with the Red lenses, I guess its at their discression (sp)

When it comes to MOT time it does wear the normal amber-red-white lenses
Although I have been told that if you use green coloured bulbs the light flashes amber and is therefore legal.

I think that's unlikely - green light shining through red filter looks black, or at any rate dark and certainly not bright enough to be safe as an indicator.

Strangely enough that's what I thought. I did try using green lens paint on a smaller bulb and whilst it did look 'less red' it certainly was a dim light.
In any event on long/motorway journeys I do use the amber lenses for safety. The red ones just look better in photos.

Still looking great, Mark. Glad you kept the original wheels.
Re the high back seats, which I see you fitted, a few questions;
- is it difficult to source them in very good condition?
-Type 3 specific or Beatle ones ok?
-do they restrict visibilty somewhat?- I find visibility in notch is very good, esp. good for lhd car- have no rh mirror at present.

They are still the low back seats, I just managed to get hold of a couple of matching 70's slip-on head rests, these don't restrict my visibility and they're easy to remove. That said, I still want/need to replace the driver's seat as the mechanism for adjusting the angle of the seat back has failed completely - it's too reclined for my liking.
