Re: 68 Fastback
I looked at going that route, but the combustion exhaust would have been pointing towards the inside of the vehicle, a bn1 bug type would have worked better but they are even harder to find and have a fairly crude control system compared with the bus bn4. This side project has taken ages to sort, something I was wishing I'd never started same as you Dave I've never actually found any other bn4's in type 3's so had to research stuff the best I could and head scratch/trial fit till it worked.

In answer to your question re: bug brakes, I'm running ATE bug calipers up front after one of my originals seized, they work fine and stop the car well
Re: 68 Fastback
I'm not sure of the piston diameter on the ones I bought, which have a 311 number for '72 Ghias. They certainly work better than sticky old calipers, even if the braking force has to be a bit bigger for the 40mm Bug pistons than 42mm Type 3! Also, having a front lock-up tendency, slightly less forward brake balance must help! Some day when I'm really short of things to do I'll have a look at the piston size!
Dave.
