project 72 fastty
Re: project 72 fastty
still a long way to go yet broady but progress is pretty good at the moment,
got all the steering parts bolted on so i put the fastty back on the floor to add some weight to make sure it all worked as it should, in doing so the front end panels all had to come off so i got some pics of it all apart.
one good thing with keep stripping it down is that you know it all fits as it should.
one other thing i wanted to do was change the mx5 door handles and put on some early type3 units. so i made up some new door patch panels with the correct holes in for the handles and started to weld one side in.
more soon.

Re: project 72 fastty
no broady it wont see the road this year but i am hoping to have it running at xmas ( well thats the plan ).
been on with the rust repair on the under side of the shell and finally its done.
with that down i have been able to get on with running the brake and fuel lines.
got to take the engine and box out to do the front brake lines so thats next on the list, one other thing i want to do before i put the body on is build the exhaust system.

Re: project 72 fastty
cheers angelo,
all the brake and fuel pipes are now done and i have been on with the exhaust, all from 3" stainless steel it is pretty much done with just the rear boxes to arrive sometime this week.
had to make up a cardboard riplica of the rear boxes so i could keep moving forward on the rear portion of the exhaust.
with the riplica box in place you can sort of see that i am trying to make it look like an after market type 3 system, if you see what i mean.
also fabricated a cver for the clutch cylinder on the gear box.
with the body back on it feels like progress is being made.
more soon.

the exhaust is now all fabbed up and it looks killer.

Re: project 72 fastty
with the exhaust done its on with the front inner wings. once i had sorted out what i wanted i started to cut some sheet metal. the passenger inner wing is fairly simple but the drivers side was always going to be a mission because of the brake servo, any how this is what i have come up with.
really happy with how it turned out , just need the washer bottle to arrive then i can complete the passenger side.

Re: project 72 fastty
yes , i know its been awhile but with my other project more or less out the way i can get back into the fastty, first job has been to get it stripped down to the chassis and just sort all the sh***y bits. dressing welds and just making sure everything is ok for powder coating.

made some reel progress this week, got the front hubs redrilled and the suspension back on. got the adaptor done to mount the mazda rx8 gearbox onto the rover engine and got it bolted back in the chassis. with the engine back in next thing was to fit all the exhaust system. everything seems to fit as it should so happy days.
